Laurin and I have worked with many realtors in the past since we have been active buying and selling real estates. Not until we met Helen, we had always wondered if there was no such thing as an excellent realtor. Everyone has his own definition of the “excellent” realtor. To us, it boils down to two attributes – RESPONSIVENESS and CLIENT-FOCUS. We have worked with realtors who we just could not get a hold of – every time we made a call, we would always have to leave a message; then we would not get the call back until the next day or two. Sometimes we had to leave several messages to get a call back. We ended up getting frustrated, wondering why they ever wanted to be a realtor if they could not (or did not) make themselves accessible to their clients at all. With Helen, the experience was totally different, in a most positive way. With well more than 10 active listings on hand, she was busy at the time of representing us, but she managed to stay in touch with us as promptly as we expected. She responded promptly to our various requests, e.g. setting up property search notifications, arranging property viewings, enquiring about the properties, getting feedback from her counterpart realtors, etc. She also took the initiative of reaching us by phone, text or emails to keep us updated of the progress – just so different from those days when we had to chase the realtors down. The new home we ended up buying with Helen’s help was just the first day on the market when we saw the listing notification. We liked it immediately and asked Helen to arrange the viewing right on the same day. She arranged it and went with us even though it was a very short notice for her. We liked it and wanted to make an offer that same night. She didn’t blink once but prepared the offer right away and delivered it to the listing agent that same night. The next day she diligently followed up with the listing realtor and kept us informed the whole time. At the day-end, we got an accepted offer! We were so happy that we had acted quickly enough to keep the competition behind. It is a beautiful property at a good price – if not for Helen’s responsiveness, diligence and smartness, we may have to experience a lot more ups and downs (likely higher price too) before getting our offer accepted. The sale of our old home was also another pleasant experience with Helen. On the note of client-focus – Realtors make money when they make a deal. So it is unrealistic to ask a realtor to consider only the client’s interest but not his or hers. However there is still a fine line between client-focused and self-interest-driven. All realtors claim that he or she puts client’s interests ahead of his or her own, but sadly in reality we had worked with several realtors who acted the opposite. They either pushed us to make a deal even though we were not happy with the terms, or they were not willing to write up an offer just because they considered our offering as “low-balls”, or they dragged on showing us properties while pressuring us for being not serious buyers, etc. Again, our experience with Helen was completely different. She never made us feel being pressured. She let us to lead the pace and offered advices when needed. When we had different thoughts, she always respected us and acted according to our wishes. In addition to being responsive and client-focused, we also found Helen to be very friendly, punctual and PROFESSIONAL. She was always right on time for appointments. Her paperwork was always complete, tidy and worded professionally to ENSURE OUR INTERESTS WERE FULLY PROTECTED. We just learned she was again awarded as Medallion Club Members. We would never wonder why she could have such outstanding achievements – She is BEYOND any average realtor.
